Licensing
How licences work
A licence is issued by CyberSift in one of two forms:
- a licence key (normal, online): you enter it once and the install checks it with the CyberSift licensing service over HTTPS every 12 hours, sending only the certificate count and product version. Renewals and limit changes then apply by themselves. If the service is briefly unreachable the install keeps working on its last check;
- an offline licence file,
license.key, for installs without internet access.
Either form states:
- the number of certificates the install may manage, issued and uploaded together;
- the features included;
- an expiry date, or none for a perpetual licence file.
Licences are never per user: add as many people, teams and departments as you need. Renewing a certificate never uses another slot.
Installing a licence
- On a new install: the first step of the setup guide asks for the licence key. No internet access? Tick the offline option and upload
license.keyinstead. - Any time later: open the Licence page: Licence key to enter or change the key, or Offline licence file to upload a file.
With a licence key there is nothing to reinstall when your licence is renewed or your limit is raised. With a licence file, install the new file over the old one.
Safe by design: a file that has already expired is refused, so a working licence is never replaced by a dead one.
What each feature unlocks
| Feature | What it switches on |
|---|---|
api |
API keys and the REST API |
sso |
Entra ID, OIDC and LDAP sign-in (the built-in administrator always works) |
multi-department |
Creating and editing departments |
mcp |
The AI assistant endpoint |
siem-forwarding |
Forwarding the audit log to your SIEM |
Trials include every feature. Switching a feature off never deletes data: it only hides that function.
When a licence runs out
Nothing breaks. Viewing, downloads, renewals and alerts all keep working. Only adding new certificates is paused until a valid licence is installed, and the Issue page explains why.
Health starts warning 30 days before a dated licence expires, so there is plenty of time to renew.
